Hydrant Repairs and Replacement

It is important that fire hydrants can deliver water to fire fighters in emergency situations at the required pressure and flow. L & M Ditching provides a fire testing service and can certify operational hydrants. We can also repair and replace fire hydrants, giving you peace of mind that your fire hydrant is operational and prepared if needed.

Pipe Bursting

Pipe bursting is a trenchless method of replacing buried pipelines (such as sewer, water, or natural gas pipes) without the need for a traditional construction trench.

Water Line Hot-Tapping

Water Line Hot tapping is the method of making a connection to existing piping or pressure vessels without the interruption of emptying that section of pipe or vessel. This means that a pipe or tank can continue to be in operation while maintenance or modifications are being done to it.

Camera and Video Inspections

CCTV operators ensure that clients receive standardized assessments of their underground systems. CCTV inspection services are ideal for new construction quality evaluations, municipal drain reports or to diagnose issues that customers may be experiencing.

Hydrovacing CCs and Valves

Hydrovac trucks use high pressure water to cut the soil and vacuum to remove the soil. The truck's tanks contain the soil until it is full and then the slurry is disposed of at a designated area. Generally hydrovacing is used where mechanical excavation is not allowed, such as areas around underground pipelines etc. It also guarantees that services such as electricity, gas and so on are not damaged by excavation equipment which is generally used to open the ground to expose the pipes.

Private Utility Locates

As part of our private utility locate, L & M Ditching provides the horizontal locations of existing private detectable buried utilities and structures. Our services for this task includes documentation review including public locates, surveys, as-built or constructions drawings and property investigation which includes:

  • Work area and property boundaries
  • Property grounds
  • Building mechanical and service utility rooms

Our Field Technician will use various active, passive and inductive locate methods to physically locate the horizontal location of private detectable buried utilities and mark them with the international colour codes for marking.

Directional Boring

Directional boring, commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipe in a shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surface-launched drilling rig, with minimal impact on the surrounding area. Directional boring is used when trenching or excavating is not practical. It is suitable for a variety of soil conditions and jobs including road, landscape and river crossings.

Pipe can be made of materials such as PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, Ductile iron, and steel as long as it can be pulled through the drilled hole. Directional boring is not practical if there are voids in the rock or incomplete layers of rock. The best material is solid rock or sedimentary material. Soils with cobble stone are not recommended. There are different types of heads used in the pilot-hole process, and they depend on the geological material.

Thawing Water and Sewer Lines

Water can freeze in home pipes due to faulty taping, a malfunctioning thermostat, or inadequate insulation. Worse, the frozen water can rupture the pipe and cause major damage. Start by looking for cracks and split pipes, and locate the main shut-off valve so you can prevent a flood if necessary. We thaw our lines using hot water.

High Density Pipe Installation

HDPE pipes are used for certain soil conditions they can be used for sanitary sewer lines, storm sewer lines, as well as water lines. HDPE pipes are fused together by a using a fusing machine and done on site during installation.
